17 Ways To A Better You - [Exhibition]

Added on by Adrian+Shane.

Opening at 3pm on Saturday 26th November at the Droichead Arts Centre, 17 WAYS TO A BETTER YOU, the new exhibition from Adrian+Shane can be seen until 4th March 2023.

"17 Ways To A Better You" explores the impact of self-help books, click bait quick fix articles, being bombarded with advertisements and unattainable images particularly on social media promising a better life if we obey their message. The work is largely compiled of imagery from adverts from the 1950's to the present day, in a freshly fucked-up, pop art and contemporary style.

For years we have had a fascination with self-help books, gurus, enlightenment and more recently podcasts and what they promise. An obsession with trying to find happiness, build a better life and be the best us we can be. So “17 Ways" is a look into a world of promises and relief from life and yourself.

We explore this through the imagery of advertisement and social media because there is a connection with people's perceived and aspirational happiness in the 1950s before the onset of mass advertisement.

What we are being sold as something that will make you happier is actually making people more unsatisfied with their lives. We now have an abundance of self-help and quick fix lists to help you out of it.

"17 Ways To A Better You" is the first Adrian+Shane exhibition in Ireland in over a decade.

Incognito 2018

Added on by Adrian and Shane.
We are delighted to announce that we're part of the ‘Incognito’ exhibition, Jack & Jill’s 2018 Public Art Project.

Over 1000 Irish and International artists have joined this initiative to paint, draw, photograph, etch, sew or create something on a postcard (150mm x 100mm), which will form the largest group exhibition held in Ireland this year. It will include work by Tracey Emin, John Kelly, Peter Curling, Martin Gale, Olivia Golden, P.J. Crook, Ed Miliano, Abigail O’Brien, and Richard Gorman – but all pieces are exhibited anonymously, and sold for €50 each to the first buyer present in person at the Solomon Gallery after 10am on Friday 6th April.

In 2017, this event raised €81,000 for the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation – but this year we undertake to solve the dilemma of the queue going all the way round the block on the sale days, by having two viewing days before the artworks go on sale.

4th - 8th APRIL – SOLOMON GALLERY, DUBLIN

64 Bits Exhibition

Added on by Adrian+Shane.
A selection of images by Adrian+Shane feature in the '64 Bits' exhibition at 'Here East' in London right now. The exhibition runs from March 30th - April 21st. Admission is free.

There was a lot of weird shit going on in the early days of the internet. Taking us back in time, 64 Bits is an interactive recreation of the early years of the web, which hopes to tell the stories of the forgotten artist engineers that shaped today’s digital culture. See a working version of the first search engine, Archie, created by Alan Emtage; the work of Susan Kare - who designed the first microsoft playing cards and browse the very first website made in 1991. The exhibition also includes an open-door digital media archiving service, where artists and designers can bring in obsolete media to migrate inaccessible historical artwork to a modern format.

Here East,
East Bay Lane,
Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park,

The evening combines an interactive live streaming experience inviting the audience to share the performances digitally, many of which are enacted remotely.

The artists aim to destabilize the current repose of the traditional white gallery space by creating a new cyber reality whilst highlight the ubiquitous preoccupation with our mobile phones and digital devices.
